A BIG THANK YOU goes to Lloyd Anderson, Bill Blauwiekel, Duane Hilgenkamp, Gary Simonson, and Bob Pinker for replacing all of the lights in the Sanctuary to LED. This was a big undertaking but their hard work saved the church from a very big expense!
WORSHIP ON THE GREEN HAS RETURNED – Join us for 8:30 a.m. service outside every month on the 1st Sunday of month throughout the summer (weather permitting). If it rains we will move inside. So bundle up, bring a lawn chair and join us! Music by the Dan Dan Jimmy band with guest musicians. Our next service will be Sunday, June 5, the Day of Pentecost, so wear red!
PRAYER GARDEN VOLUNTEER – We have a section of the Prayer Garden that needs maintenance. If you are a garden lover or a want-to-be garden lover this is a great opportunity to join this group of caring people that keep the Prayer Garden beautiful. If you are interested or if a couple of families would like to help maintain the area please email the church off at firstname.lastname@example.org. This is a wonderful way to give back to Advent.
SUNDAY MORNING SNACKS! - We have enjoyed our fellowship time after Sunday morning service and food is always an added benefit! If you would like to “host” the fellowship time just pick a date on the signup sheet on the kiosk. We have serving pieces and paper products, you just bring the goodies! Thanks to Dorothy Clopton for organizing and for the snacks this past Sunday. Email Dorothy if you have questions at email@example.com.
TWO NEW ONLINE OFFERINGS STARTING IN MAY:
#1: SHORT STORIES BY JESUS - Using Amy-Jill Levine's book of the same name (available at your favorite bookseller), we will meet on Thursday evenings at 7 p.m. Zoom at this recurring Link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83066321563. This book is a collection of Jesus' Parables, which he taught using everyday illustrations and stories. Many of these stories are coming up this summer in our lectionary from Luke's Gospel, so this is a great way to root yourself in some conversation about the context and intent of Jesus' teaching. Each week includes a brief video comment by the author. This Week (5/12)The Good Samaritan.
#2: "SO, WHAT'S YOUR STORY?" That's the main question we'll deal with in this on-line group of Advent members. We're all pilgrims on the way of a life of faith, as St. Paul suggests, so every two weeks we'll gather virtually to engage questions like "How did you come to your faith - from your family, from a particular experience? Have there been moments that tested your belief? What were those challenges, and how did they impact your faith?" Dealing with those questions is bound to suggest others from the group. Because everyone's story is unique in size and shape, some evenings we'll hear from one person and some evenings from several. We'll let the conversation flow as the Spirit guides us. Come and join in! Our next Zoom will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 24. Recurring Zoom link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/84730278099
THE CHOSEN WATCH PARTY – If you weren’t able to participate in the Zoom discussions of The Chosen, join us for in-person viewing on Wednesday nights starting May 18, at 7:00 p.m. in the Narthex. Bring a friend!
