FAITH STEPPING STONE #7 - High School Graduation - Family Class is today, Sunday, January 19, following our 10 a.m. worship. Seniors and their parent(s) should stay in the sanctuary for the meeting. The Blessing in Church is scheduled for February 23 (Transfiguration of Our Lord.)
CAN’T WORSHIP ON SUNDAY? Thursday Worship includes the lessons and sermon for the upcoming Sunday, as well as Holy Communion. Please make worship a regular part of your week, either on Thursday or Sunday.
NEW FELLOWSHIP EVENT - This year we will replace our traditional Ash Wednesday Soup Supper with a Shrove Tuesday ("Fat Tuesday") Pancake Feed, on the last evening before Lent begins, Tuesday, February 25. The dinner will be hosted by our High School Youth and Mardi Gras is the theme. Last call for festivities before Ash Wednesday. More information to come.
2020 BISHOPS TROPHY CHALLENGE - Each year we raise funds for Central States Synod’s Youth/Young Adult ministries through a fun challenge to snag The Bishops Trophy. Each $1 that goes in a jug is a vote for your favorite ministry. Support Camp Tomah Shinga, Lutheran Campus Ministry at KSU, or KU Campus Ministry, the 2019 current holder of the Bishops Trophy for 2019. “Voting” ends February 2 on Super Bowl Sunday. Join the fun today and vote!
Every dollar in a jug counts as a vote for your favorite organization. Checks should be written to Advent with the name of your organization in the memo line; deposit into your "jug of choice."
A BRAND NEW GOSPEL TO EXPLORE TOGETHER
We are just beginning conversational discussions on the Gospel of St. Matthew - SUNDAYS at 11:15-12:15 or WEDNESDAYS AT ONE. This is an informal format for reading scripture and is more fun than you’ve probably every had studying scripture! Now is a great time to join us, and get back to the Bible. It’s never too late to better understand what God might be saying to you through Scripture. Join us anytime. Bring your own Bible or use ours; meets in the Advent Library. Pastor Susan facilitates the conversations.
2020 ALTAR FLOWERS/ETERNAL CANDL SIGN UPS are posted on the kiosk. Sign up to reserve a Sunday in honor, memory or celebration of a loved one. Flowers are $25 and the Eternal Candle is $20 weekly. Please pay when you sign up by check to Advent. Note “flowers” or “eternal candle” on the memo line, or you may pay through Tithe.ly or the website. You may check with Brenda in the office to see if a particular weekend is still available.
WEAVERS OF THE WORD - Weavers of the Word book study is today, January 19. The book discussion will be on the book , Little Fires Everywhere: A Novel by Celeste Ng. Plan to join us tonight at 7 pm at Starbucks (159th & Antioch). If you have questions, please contact Julie at 913-782-0120.

FAITH STEPPING STONE #4 FIRST BIBLE - is a three-week class that walks you and your 3rd grader through the entire Bible. All classes are in March, following church at 11:15 to 12:30. Please mark your calendars for the first meeting on Sunday, March 1; then March 8 and March 29.
Anyone who is interested may take this Walk through the Bible as an “auditor,” simple bring your own Bible. Join us.
ADVENT PRESCHOOL FALL ENROLLMENT is open for the fall 2020 classes. If you would like to register your preschooler, or have questions, please contact Director, Jean Carlson (913-681-5829), or the church office.
JACOB'S CLOSET has been meeting for many years and is always looking for a few new people to help create quilts of all sizes. If you can’t be here, we have plenty of “home” work. We cut squares, sew kits together, assemble with backing and batting and tie with yarn. If you or your children would like to help, please contact Julie at 913-829-4707. Last year’s group finished and donated 77 quilts to local charities. Jacobs Closet meets on 1st and 3rd Tuesdays at 6:30pm
WANT TO HELP OUT WITH FELLOWSHIP? We need some help as we create a “Fellowship Team.” If you would like to help out in the kitchen, organize events, set-up/break down or just help wherever, please let the office know that you are willing.
SUNDAY MORNING SNACKS are well received each week and promote conversation and fellowship. If you’d like to provide some goodies, pick a date on the sign-up sheet on the kiosk. We’ve got the serving pieces and paper products; you just share your favorite snacks!

CONTRIBUTE ONLINE ANYTIME at adventolathe.org. Click the blue “Contribute” button for offering or to pay for fee, preschool tuition, flowers, eternal candle, etc.
GIVING FOR 2020 - Take some time to prayerfully consider how you will include Advent’s ministries in your charitable giving for 2020. If you would like to submit a pledge to help you be intentional about your giving, there are Pledge Cards at the Coffee station, and in the Church Office.
EXPERIENCED IT PROFESSIONAL – The church office is needing help with the church office computer system. If you have experience working with IT systems and willing to help, please contact Brenda in the church office or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
INCLEMENT WEATHER - We take the cancellation of worship and other activities very seriously. The safety of our members, visitors and staff is our highest priority. Any worship cancellations will be reported primarily through posts on our website (www.adventolathe.org) and Facebook. Midweek cancellations will be reported via email, if possible. Advent Preschool follows the Blue Valley School District for cancellations due to weather.
