Make a Difference beyond Advent

God's Work. Our Hands is our motto.   Our members are involved in projects helping resource folks in our community to building houses in Mexico and offering physical therapy in Haiti.
Our Mission Directive: "Committing our resources to help restore and rebuild the greater community." Here are some of our friends:

This program helps build civic pride by beautifying Olathe city streets, increasing safety and decreasing litter and other pollutants through trash removal. Want to help? Sign up on the kiosk individually, with your family or church group.

Co-founded by member Donna Hutchisons,Global Therapy Group was created in response to the dire need for rehabilitation services in Haiti following the earthquake of January, 2010.  Advent has helped the clinic with monetary funding, sewing slings, a mission trip to landscape the grounds and prayer.

  Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth.
  Worship the Lord with gladness;
    come before him with joyful songs.
  Know that the Lord is God.
    It is he who made us, and we are his[a];
    we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.

  Enter his gates with thanksgiving
    and his courts with praise;
    give thanks to him and praise his name.
  For the Lord is good and his love endures forever;
    his faithfulness continues through all generations.

In addition members of Advent have traveled to the Dominican Republic and help build a well so that a village could have access to clean water.

Beginning in 2012 Community for Kids has provided weekend food packs to food insecure students who were identified by their Blue Valley School District (BVSD) principals and counselors.

From their pantry, located on the school district campus, this organization is packing and delivering food to over 200 students in 14 BVSD schools on a weekly basis.

Thanks to all that have donated their time, money, and resources over the last several years to help this worthwhile cause.  Community for Kids relies solely on individuals and other community organizations for their monetary and volunteer support.  If you are interested in donating food, funds, or your time, the Advent contacts are Lori Koch (913) 980-2031, and Laura Chall (913) 226-6196,

We proudly serve Fair Trade coffee and tea at Advent.  We like it so much we like to take it home - if you'd like to buy some for home, there is a self serve cabinet in the narthex (sanctuary lobby) that holds a supply of different varieties of Fair Trade coffee and tea.  If you'd like to find out more about Fair Trade programs that we support, check out Equal Exchange.
